Tottenham’s squad lacks depth
Defeat for Tottenham maintained their unwanted poor record at Stamford Bridge which last saw then beat The Blues back in February 1990. Chelsea have not lost at home to Tottenham in thirty meetings in all competitions in a streak that stretches back nearly seventeen years.
In truth, Mauricio Pochettino’s side could well have claimed victory if not for their lack of cutting edge in the final third and inability to convert their chances into goals.
However, a much more obvious concern for Pochettino will have been the lack of strength and depth in his current squad. As the Argentinian searched for solutions from the touchline he will have undoubtedly have been handicapped by the lack of experienced options that he could call upon from the bench.
Whilst Chelsea brought on Willian, Oscar and Branislav Ivanovic (Cesc Fabregas was not even required) Tottenham had to be content with introducing 20-year-old Harry Winks, 21-year-old Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and the out of form Vincent Janssen.
If Spurs are to truly cement their place as genuine title contenders then Pochettino will need to add further quality and experience to his squad in the forthcoming transfer windows.
