'Cheaper alternative to Maddison': Some Arsenal fans want £15m 'baller', his manager expects him to leave

Some Arsenal fans have urged the Gunners to make a move for Matheus Pereira.

Arsenal are currently looking to bolster their ranks in wake of a dismal 2020-21 season.

The Gunners had high expectations after winning the FA Cup last term and the Community Shield at the start of the campaign.

However, Arsenal ended up winning no major trophy last term and didn’t even get into Europe.

Midfield is an area the Gunners are likely to strengthen, with Martin Odegaard and Dani Ceballos back at Real Madrid.

Pereira, one of West Brom’s few shining lights last season, is a player who could be on the move to another club.

The Brazilian took a while to get used to the Premier League last term, but he finished the campaign strongly.

Pereira registered 11 goals and six assists, good work in a team that only scored 35 times from 38 league matches.

He is the catalyst for his team’s attacking play, helps out defensively, is great at pressing opponents, and likes a shot at goal.

And according to TEAMtalk, clubs could potentially snap Pereira up for as little as £15m.

“My expectation”

New Baggies boss Valerien Ismael has made it clear he expects Pereira to leave this summer.

“It’s not a secret that Sam Johnstone and Matheus Pereira can maybe leave the club,” the Express & Star quotes him as saying.

“It’s my expectation that they (will) leave.”

Upon hearing this, some Arsenal fans have urged Edu and Mikel Arteta to get on the case.

Pereira is back in training with West Brom, who will be hoping to bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

The Baggies recently appointed Ismael as Sam Allardyce’s replacement after the latter left at the end of last season.
