The hype surrounding Celtic’s capture of Charly Musonda on an 18-month loan deal from Celtic, back in January 2019 was enormous. Fast forward six months and the loan had ended, but Musonda has told the Independent he has “no regrets”.

Brendan Rodgers convinced Chelsea that Musonda – one of Chelsea’s brightest attacking talents at the time – that Celtic was the place for him to further his development alongside gaining invaluable first-team game time.

An excellent assist against Zenit St. Petersburg in the knockout rounds of the Europa League promised much, but that was as best as it got. Musonda managed just eight appearances for Celtic. Six months into his 18-month loan, he returned to Chelsea.

After a long-term injury saw him spell the entire 2018-19 campaign, but now Musonda is back fit and on loan at Dutch Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem where he has made three appearances this ter,. He claimed he did not regret his Celtic spell.

“I have no regrets about my time at Celtic. I have no problems with Brendan Rodgers. He tried to develop me, he treated me well in training. You can’t dwell on it,” Musonda said.

TBR’s view – Musonda never got a fair break at Celtic

Many were bewildered that Musonda got little chance to shine at Parkhead. The winger was one of the next best talents to come through at Chelsea, and got off to a flying start against Zenit.

But Rodgers chose not to play Musonda, instead freezing him out of the side. It remains to be seen, now, whether the versatile attacker can get his career back on track and impress in the yellow and black of Vitesse.
