Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has criticised Everton after their defeat against Aston Villa last Friday, which was their first Premier League loss of the season.
Nicholas has said that he cannot see what Everton are trying to do, despite the Toffees getting back on the horse with a hard-fought 4-2 midweek EFL Cup win over Lincoln.
He said: “What is Everton’s shape? They had to tidy the defence up – they needed to. You saw them last week and thought, what is the belief in this team? I did not see anything that told me this team would threaten the top six. I did not see this materialise.
“It is an awkward one, but I am going to go with Wolves. Wolves have started well. They lost a lot of silly points last year against teams which they shouldn’t have. I expected them to beat Burnley but they managed to get a draw at the very end.”

TBR’s View – Why does Nicholas try to savage Everton while heaping praise on winless Wolves?
Everton have two clean sheets and four points to their name going into this one, where Wolves are yet to win a Premier League game yet, on three draws.
So the way Nicholas is ready to try and take Everton apart on the back of one poor night while heaping praise on a Wolves side still battling to marry strong league form with their Europa League commitments is bizarre.
Everton were poor at Villa, but their season so far doesn’t merit Nicholas trying to go big on them this early. Toffees fans will hoping their side can make him eat humble pie come Sunday.
