Charlie Nicholas has suggested that Dele Alli should be recalled for Tottenham’s upcoming match against Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend.
Spurs host Wolves on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League, as two teams chasing a top four finish face off.
The North London club have scored just one goal in their last matches across all competitions since Heung-Min Son joined teammate Harry Kane on the injury table.
There is a real lack of attacking options to play through the centre in Jose Mourinho’s squad right now and the manager has tried a number of solutions.
Sky Sports pundit Nicholas believes that Alli may be a good option to inject some attacking impotence to the side against a dangerous opponent in Wolves.
Spurs need to bounce back from the league defeat to Chelsea in their last game, while they lost in the first leg of a Champions League last 16 tie with RB Leipzig before that.
“Is Dele Alli going to play? Where is that killer final ball coming from for Spurs?” Nicholas wrote for Sky Sports.
“You might have to bring Dele in for the craft and intelligence to get them going.”
Alli was dropped to the bench for last weekend’s defeat away to Chelsea and it will be intriguing to see if Mourinho brings him back into the side.
The 23-year-old is one of the biggest goal threats currently left in the squad, but his return of eight goals in all competitions so far this season is way short of what he’s capable of.
He may need to do a job in a central striker role if recalled against Spurs, with Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn playing either side of him.
Alli really needs to pull his sleeves up at a time his side need him and he’s got the individual ability to rediscover his best form, something he had when Mourinho first joined.
