Arsenal legend Charlie Nicholas has waxed lyrical about Gunners defender Kieran Tierney for “starting to look the real deal” for Mikel Arteta’s side.
The Sky Sports pundit also reckons that the wide areas, where he suggests Tierney could feature in the FA Cup final, could be key for Arsenal to beat Chelsea.
Tierney joined Arsenal last summer from Celtic in a reported £25million deal, arriving at the Emirates Stadium to much fanfare given his heroics for the Scottish Premiership team.
However, the 23-year-old – who was nursing a hip problem when he joined the Gunners – made just 12 senior appearances prior to the suspension of English football.
Tierney put his prior woes firmly behind him after the restart, featuring in every game and becoming one of the first names on Arteta’s teamsheet, either at left wing-back or centre-back.
“The wide areas are going to be key and I’m delighted that Tierney has finally been able to get fit and he is starting to look the real deal for Arsenal,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
“This is where I feel Arsenal could win this, with pace and pinning Chelsea back.”
Arsenal’s season has been a mixed bag to say the least, before and after the suspension, but one of the best things to emerge for the Gunners post-restart has been Tierney’s incredible form.
The North Londoners have had to wait for the Scot to shine, given his injuries prior to the hiatus, but needless to say it’s been worth the wait.
Whether at left wing-back or to the left of David Luiz in the back three, he is bound to impress again at Wembley.
