Charlie Nicholas raves over form of Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin this season

Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has been full of praise for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s form this season.

Calvert-Lewin recently chalked up 100 Premier League appearances for the Toffees and has stepped into a more prominent role this season – something which has impressed Nicholas.

He said: “Everton are sitting pretty in 12th on 30 points. I have done enough of Everton this season, and I still cannot work them out. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been brilliant, their best player by a mile, but I do not get the midfield or the balance at the back.

“Bernard can be taken off after 45 or 60 minutes – he creates stuff, but he just does not score. I am so unsure of them and cannot make them out.”

TBR’s View – Youngsters leading the way for Everton in difficult season

Everton have spent an absolute fortune under a succession of managers and this season has seen Marco Silva lose his job.

Duncan Ferguson restored some pride and that is when Calvert-Lewin really took centre stage. But while many might have expected Moise Kean to have a more prominent role under Carlo Ancelotti, the Englishman has gone from strength to strength.

Along with Mason Holgate, and at times, Tom Davies, it is the young blood who have shown the example for the more experienced, expensive talent to follow at a club which desperately need an identity and a direction after years of drift.
