Charlie Nicholas praises Fraser Forster and says Southampton are finding it tough without him
Former Celtic man Charlie Nicholas has praised Fraser Forster’s work upon his loan return to Parkhead and said his parent club Southampton are in a real sticky spot without him.
He told Sky Sports that Forster has been ‘amazing’ since returning north of the border on a temporary basis but the Saints’ own goalkeeping situation is tricky now.
Nicholas said: “Southampton are too predictable and are relying on Danny Ings too much. Nathan Redmond has the pace and will give them something but not enough, and the wing backs not strong enough. At the back they are a bag of nerves and their goalkeeping situation is a difficult one too.
“Fraser Forster has been amazing for Celtic, particularly in the Scottish League Cup final, so he will be wondering what is going on as well. Who do you pick?”
TBR’s View – Forster’s return to form at Celtic has been sensational and unexpected
Forster bore all the hallmarks of a player who had signed a bumper deal and then lost his way before his loan return to Celtic in the summer.
He had slipped out of the England squad and was a distant third choice in the chase between the three Englishmen battling to be Southampton’s number one.
But Forster has rediscovered the quality that made him an international and so highly sought after at one stage. That’s testament to him but also Neil Lennon.
