Charlie Nicholas offers thoughts on how Arsenal’s back four should look at Frankfurt

Charlie Nicholas things serious changes are needed, but doesn’t want to see Shkodran Mustafi.

Former Arsenal midfielder Charlie Nicholas has demanded wholesale changes to the Gunners back four for the trip to face Eintracht Frankfurt tomorrow night.

As per Sky Sports, Nicholas would even be happy to see his old club lose if Hector Bellerin, Kieran Tierney and Rob Holding all played.

He said: “It is scary how bad Arsenal are defensively. What is the attraction to Sokratis? I would play Kieran Tierney on Thursday and see if Hector Bellerin could start too. It would be the end if Shkodran Mustafi was to be brought back.

“We need to get Rob Holding, Bellerin and Tierney back into the side as soon as possible. I would take a hit and play these players to give them game time and let them get match fitness. Tierney, Bellerin, and Holding should play – I would play them this week and take a defeat if it meant they got the game time they needed.”

TBR’s View – Frustration is understandable but is throwing three injured players back in the answer?

Of course, Bellerin, Holding and Tierney will make up Arsenal’s best back four when they’re all fit. But they need to be eased back into contention, not thrown in all at once.

That’s because Arsenal cannot afford for them to get a setback, and also another bad result because the back four isn’t sharp is the last thing they need – regardless of what Nicholas says.

Calum Chambers has to be in contention for a recall, but it is imperative that Bellerin and Tierney especially are not rushed back and ruled out for longer.
