Former Arsenal midfielder Charlie Nicholas has run through many of the players he feels Unai Emery should choose when the Gunners travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Monday.
He said: “Hector Bellerin should play. Kieran Tierney should be in, but Rob Holding will miss out. Arsenal will play two protectors – to my amazement, Granit Xhaka will still be in, but I would go with Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.
“I would be happy with Dani Ceballos and then Bukayo Saka, Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. It is that easy and simple for Arsenal. Aubameyang and Pepe had chances at Anfield and if they get these chances against Manchester United they will take them.”
TBR’s View – Arsenal won’t get a better chance to get first Old Trafford league win since 2006
Despite the various transitions the sides have gone through in the interim, Arsenal have not won at Old Trafford since 2006, when Emmanuel Adebayor’s strike sealed a 1-0 win for Arsene Wenger’s Gunners.
They won’t get a better chance to break that run than Monday; United are pedestrian in possession and leave plenty of space for counter attacks.
It’s more about breaking the mental hoodoo for Arsenal at this stage but there’s nothing to be scared of at Old Trafford any more. They just need to avoid the self-destruct button they found with regularity in the last league away trip against Watford.
