Arsenal legend and Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has praised Gunners ace Kieran Tierney for “looking stronger and fitter” since the return of the Premier League.
The left-back joined Arsenal last summer from Celtic in a reported £25million deal, arriving at the Emirates Stadium to much fanfare given his heroics for the Scottish Premiership team.
However, Tierney – who was nursing a hip problem when he joined the Gunners – made just 12 senior appearances prior to the suspension of English football.
After a taste of first-team action in the closing months of 2019, the 23-year-old picked up a shoulder injury midway through December which kept him out of action for several months.
However, Tierney is back to fitness and has started all but one of Arsenal’s games since the restart, helping the Gunners to four wins in a row in all competitions.
The Scotland international has been particularly effective at left wing-back, and Nicholas was also pleased with Mikel Arteta’s switch to 3-4-3 which is getting the best out of his players.
“Kieran Tierney has been looking stronger and fitter,” Nicholas wrote on Sky Sports. “When Arsenal have wing backs, they can hit the byline and can be dangerous.
“It is where the danger is. The intent was there from Tierney for Bukayo Saka’s goal (against Wolves). Playing higher up the pitch can allow you to pin teams in.”
Tierney may have had a difficult start to life at the Emirates but now he’s showing exactly why Arsenal spent a sizeable sum on him.
Arteta has waxed lyrical about the player numerous times, saying he’s a “joy to work with” and hailing his “incredible attitude”.
Long-term, the Gunners really have got themselves a gem, and hopefully he can help the Gunners return to the very top table in the coming years.
