Charlie Nicholas makes bizarre claim when comparing Celtic and Rangers strikers

Charlie Nicholas has made a somewhat bizarre claim on Sky Sports, saying that Celtic have better options up front than Old Firm rivals Rangers ahead of Sunday’s clash between the Glasgow rivals.

Celtic have Odsonne Edouard, who has managed just 13 league goals this season. Leigh Griffiths has only just returned to training, while the likes of Oliver Burke and Timo Weah are not naturally strikers.

Rangers, meanwhile, have the Scottish Premiership’s top scorer. Alfredo Morelos has netted an enormous 29 goals this season in all competitions, as well as creating 11 more. He is still only 22 years of age.

Kyle Lafferty has failed to impress, but has still scored six goals while Jermain Defoe has proved much better than fellow January recruit Vakoun Issouf Bayo. But Nicholas reckons Celtic have better options up front.

“Revenge is in the air,” Former Celtic man Nicholas said. “They obviously want to win this title. I really didn’t think they would be this far in front of Rangers. Celtic have earned the right to bully Rangers.

“Celtic have better options at the end of the day, they have better options up front.”

TBR’s view

Nicholas’ claim is quite ridiculous. Though Morelos has had his problems with discipline, the Colombia international is by far the best striker at the moment in Scottish football.

Edouard is the next best Scotland has to offer, but he is far from playing at his best. When the Frenchman is properly on it, he certainly is a player and is capable of mirroring the likes of Morelos.

But right now, Edouard, Burke, Defoe, Lafferty, Sam Cosgrove, Eamonn Brophy, Uche Ikpeazu and more are some way off El Buffalo.
