Former Arsenal striker Charlie Nicholas has backed a Gunners move for Gabriel Magalhaes, and expects four defenders to be sold this summer.
The north Londoners appear to be getting closer to sealing their second transfer of the window in the Brazilian defender, with The Guardian reporting a fee of €24 million/£22 million has been accepted by Lille.
A deal for Gabriel would potentially see a big change to Arsenal’s backline, with William Saliba also joining up with his new teammates after spending another season on loan with Saint-Etienne.
It would be a surprise, at this point, if the Gabriel deal did not go through, and Nicholas expects four players to depart.
“Sokratis I think will say, ‘At my stage, I have to go.
“Rob Holding, nothing against him, I don’t think Arsenal’s helped him. It was the wrong move at the wrong time for the lad. I think if the right offer comes in, he’ll go.
“And obviously Calum Chambers, who has been in and out of the club an unbelievable amounts of times, will have to go for his own sake, rather than his long-term future at Arsenal – it doesn’t exist.”
TBR’s View – Mustafi and Sokratis have to go
Mustafi has generally improved under Mikel Arteta, but still has the potential to make errors leading to goals.
Sokratis’ time at Arsenal has been far from stellar, and there is surely room to improve on the Greek international.
Englishmen Chambers and Holding might be less likely to bite the bullet, although £50,000-a-week star Chambers (Spotrac) has been at the Emirates longer without ever really establishing himself as a regular.
