Charlie Nicholas criticises form of Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford

Charlie Nicholas has singled out Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for criticism over his performances this season.

The 25-year-old has continued in his role as the number one at Goodison Park and is part of a Toffees side that have been underperforming.

Carlo Ancelotti has helped to steady the ship since his arrival as manager and the Merseyside giants are now ninth in the Premier League looking up the table.

Pickford, who earns £100,000-a-week (Spotrac), hasn’t quite been at the kind of level he’s capable of this term and has six clean sheets in the league so far.

The shot-stopper is guilty of some extremely sloppy moments when playing out with the ball from the back, while he does lack a big presence.

But he rose to fame during the 2018 World Cup with England and is still recognised as the number one in Gareth Southgate’s squad.

Sky Sports pundit Nicholas has questioned the position of Pickford for England and isn’t convinced by him.

“It is the defence that is the worry. They look so vulnerable. Jordan Pickford cannot be branded as England’s No. 1. He looks off it,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.

TBR’s View:

Pickford isn’t always the most reassuring presence in the Everton net and his form may have dipped a little, but the same could be said for a number of his teammates too.

He is definitely still the right man moving forward for Ancelotti and perhaps being dropped from the England starting XI could be the type of motivation that helps him rediscover his best form.
