Charlie Cresswell has taken to Twitter to express his delight after making his first appearance for Leeds United’s under-23s – and suggest that he is hoping that it is the first of many.
Carlos Corberan’s men were forced into a number of changes for Monday’s clash with Crystal Palace. Several players are currently away on international duty, including Ryan Edmondson, Jack Clarke and Mateusz Bogusz.

That meant that there were some new faces involved at Selhurst Park. Summer signings Liam McCarron and Stuart McKinstry also featured, but there was also a return for Tyler Roberts as he continues his comeback from injury.
Cresswell got his chance to impress at the heart of the defence alongside under-23 stalwart Pascal Struijk. With Leeds selling a number of centre-backs over the summer, it was a real opportunity to secure a permanent promotion to Corberan’s ranks for the youngster.
And the teenager may have perhaps done his chances of securing a more regular under-23 spot no harm at all. Leeds kept a clean sheet as the two sides played out a goalless draw.

Cresswell had a tough time, but did show some signs of promise. His mistake led to Palace getting a penalty, but Illan Meslier was on hand to produce a brilliant save.
And Cresswell took to social media after making his bow for the under-23s to comment on making his first appearance and outline his target of getting more chances in the future.
Here is Cresswell’s message after the draw…
