QPR striker, Charlie Austin, believes Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has been a victim of what he calls ‘football snobbery’, after being ignored by England.
Bamford was being tipped for a call up by Gareth Southgate following a superb three quarters of the season with the Whites. However, Ollie Watkins beat him to the spot after playing well for Villa.

And Austin, who was speaking to Talksport today, believes Bamford is suffering a similar fate to that which he did a few years back.
“I was fourth top scorer in the Premier League. I think if I had (played for a bigger club), I’d have been picked and it’s going against Patrick Bamford right now. Because that’s football snobbery,” Austin said.
“I do believe that. That is the be all and end all. It’s tough to say, nowadays. If you look at Bamford, what has he done not to be called up? Eric Dier has been called up. Has he done enough? Or are you calling him up because he plays for Tottenham?.”
Austin is currently enjoying a fine spell with QPR back in the Championship. But clearly, he knows a thing or two about top level football and makes an interesting case for Bamford.
TBR View: Bamford should have been involved at the very least
Southgate has made himself look a bit silly again here. He has harped on in the past about picking on form. And while he has done with Jesse Lingard, the omission of Bamford doesn’t make sense at all.
Bamford will simply have to keep plugging away but you do get the impression that if he played for one of the big six or even someone just below, then he’d be given the nod.
Austin, then, makes a very valid point here.
