‘I spoke to someone close to him’: Journalist says recently injured Arsenal man is confident of returning this season

Respected Arsenal journalist, Charles Watts, has stated on his YouTube channel that midfielder, Thomas Partey, is hoping to return to action before the season finishes.

Partey joined Kieran Tierney on the injured list this week after sustaining what looked like a serious knock in the miserable defeat at Crystal Palace on Monday. The Gunners were hammered in the game, and Partey’s injury capped off a poor personal display too.

Speaking about the injury yesterday, Mikel Arteta seemed to sit on the fence. The Spaniard admitted it could be a long-term thing, but conceded it is being assessed by the minute to reveal the true extent of the damage.

However, commenting on his YouTube channel yesterday, Charles Watts revealed that he’s spoken to someone close to Partey who has better news for Gunners fans.

“I’ve spoken to someone who is very close to Thomas Partey and he was hopeful that Partey will play again this season. But, nobody knows. If you look at his previous injury he came back too soon and then got injured again,” Watts said.

Partey has been vital in the middle of the park for Arsenal this season alongside Granit Xhaka. However, this the latest in a long line of injuries he’s picked up since his arrival.

TBR’s View: Partey Should Just Be Considered Missing For The Season

Watts touches on this in his interview, but even if Partey does come back in say 4-6 weeks, that only leaves him a couple of games to contribute to. Even then, he’ll have to get up to speed. With that, it’s probably best that Mikel Arteta just plans for life without him.

This is, of course, a big blow for Arsenal. Partey has been outstanding at times and crucial for the midfield engine.

The plus side for Arsenal is that this should give Sambi Lokonga another chance. The young midfielder has done well at times, and he’ll be looking to grasp his chance once more.
