'There's just nothing': Journalist delivers Arsenal transfer update that will go down like a lead balloon
Arsenal are said to be continuing in their pursuit of Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo this month, with the Gunners desperate to bring the Juventus man to England.
Reports over the weekend had suggested a deal was close for Melo. It was believed the Gunners were coming round to the idea of an 18-month loan deal, while Juventus are said to be open to the move happening. However, nothing has moved on since the weekend and another day has almost ticked by for Edu and Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal fans, as we know, are desperate for new additions this month. However, speaking to his YouTube channel earlier today, Goal’s Arsenal correspondent, Charles Watts, had some bad news for Gunners fans when it came to Arthur Melo.
“Unfortunately, again, I kind of feel like I’m sounding like a broken record at the moment but there’s just nothing, as far as I’m aware, that anything’s moved on with the Arthur situation,” Watts said.
“They remain talking with the agent, talking with Juventus. But Juve are yet to green light that deal and people I speak to over in Italy are saying that it’s still the same thing. Juventus won’t be letting him go unless they sign someone else in his place. There’s reports that Bentancur is going to Aston Villa as well, so are Juve going to really let two midfielders go? I don’t know.”
TBR’s View: Arsenal Leaving It Late
It’s almost becoming a habit for Arsenal in that they are linked with countless players, then leave it late to actually go and do the business. Of course, Edu and co might have it all in hand. But that’s no good for the Gunners fans.
Put simply, Arsenal need a midfielder. They’ve wanted Melo all January and if they end up missing out on him and not getting anyone, then Gunners fans will wonder what is going on.
This is a big week now for Arsenal, and it sounds like they’re relying on Juventus for a favour too!
