Championship star Gary Roberts urges Everton to sack Marco Silva

Wigan Athletic winger Gary Roberts has claimed on Twitter that Everton need to offload manager Marco Silva as the international break approaches, following the frustrating 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Cenk Tosun scored an injury-time equaliser to cancel out Dele Alli’s second-half opener for Tottenham, in a game that was overshadowed by VAR and a horrible injury to Everton midfielder Andre Gomes – which sees him undergo surgery on Monday.

However, the failure to win for Silva sees Everton sit way down in 17th place – with just three victories from 11 league games. The Toffees have lost six of their Premier League matches so far, and Silva is edging closer to the sack.

Roberts – who was born in Liverpool and played for the Reds youth team, but is an Everton fan (Examiner) – urged the Merseyside club to finally sack ex-Watford manager Silva on Twitter, as the international break approaches.

TBR’s view – Surely it is time Everton go in another direction

Everton spent more than £100million in the summer and those signings have hardly proved successful under Marco Silva. Gomes and Delph are excused, but Moise Kean has struggled and Alex Iwobi was at fault for Tottenham’s goal.

To have all that money spent and still sit just one place above the relegation zone, despite pre-season aspirations of challenging the top six, then Silva has got to go. The fact he has been given until November is ludicrous.
