Although it was expected to be a quiet day at Arsenal, the club have now finalised a deal for a senior player to leave.

Mikel Arteta made it very clear that Arsenal wouldn’t be signing any new faces today, even if many believed that a defender would arrive for much of the window.

However, with it reported that Cedric Soares will now be staying, perhaps he will continue to act as versatile, emergency cover.

That being said, a few departures still seem to be on track, and one has now been completed.

Youngster Lino Sousa seems just moments away from joining Aston Villa, news that was broken yesterday.

However, one unexpected move has now developed and been finalised.

Runar Alex Runarsson has spent the first half of the season on loan at Cardiff City, only for his loan to be cut short today.

The keeper was second choice at Cardiff, a situation not benefiting Arsenal or Runarsson.

Just hours ago Danish outlet Bold reported that the Icelandic keeper could be on the move again today following that loan termination.

And whilst that news was still resonating, Arsenal journalist Chris Wheatley has now confirmed that a move to FC Copenhagen has already been completed.

The deal seemed to have moved incredibly fast behind the scenes and Wheatley shared the news on X.

He said: “F.C. Copenhagen have signed Arsenal goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson on a permanent deal until June 2027.

“Runarsson’s contract with Arsenal was mutually terminated, as called by Daniel Nojsen.”

The end of the era for Runarsson at Arsenal, which didn’t really work out following his £2m move.
