Arsenal are likely to be busy in the last four weeks of the summer transfer window as Mikel Arteta and Edu look to strengthen their squad.

The Gunners are finally up and running in the market, having secured the signing of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.

Arsenal also seem to be making good progress in pursuit of Real Sociedad and Spain midfielder Mikel Merino.

A recent report claimed that the Gunners are “set to complete” a deal with the Liga outfit worth around £34million plus bonuses.

Now, a report from Spain has suggested that Arsenal could be set for another boost in the market.

According to Mundo Deportivo, a rival suitor for an “unbelievable” Gunners target appears unwilling to reach the selling club’s valuation for the player.

Barcelona unwilling to match Leipzig valuation for Arsenal target Dani Olmo

The player in question is Dani Olmo, who has made a big name for himself at RB Leipzig and for the Spain national team.

A few weeks ago, TBR Football sources claimed that the 26-year-old’s agents spoke to several clubs in the Premier League about their client’s situation.

The likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea, plus Manchester City, were said to have taken part in discussions with Olmo’s representatives.

However, Barcelona are believed to have since taken the lead in the race for the Euro 2024 winner.

MD report that Leipzig want a fixed €60million (£51million) for their midfielder, but Barca are only willing to go up to €50million up front (£43million).

This is because the Blaugrana’s valuation coincides with Olmo’s exit clause, effective next season.

As per Goal.com, Barca raised their offer to €47million (£40million) fixed, plus €3million (£2.5million) based on the player’s game appearances, and an additional €10million (£8.5million) in potential bonuses for future titles.

With new Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schafer taking charge at the start of August, the club plans to evaluate Barca’s latest offer in the coming days.

Door may open for Arsenal to swoop for Olmo

The above development could hand Arsenal a boost because, if Leipzig don’t accept Barca’s offer, then the deal could potentially collapse.

Admittedly, Olmo favours a move to the Camp Nou, who in turn are eager to sign the player this summer.

With that in mind, there’s always a chance that Leipzig accept the latest offer, or that Olmo stays put for another season and then leaves next term.

However, a stalling deal could let the Gunners back in, and considering how far they’ve come in recent years, they’ll fancy their chances of turning the “unbelievable” midfielder’s head.
