Cesc Fabregas shares how well he thinks Arsenal can do in the Champions League after Porto win

Arsenal beat Porto in midweek to get into the Champions League quarter-finals but they’ve now been drawn against Bayern Munich.

The Gunners won out on penalties and will now face Bayern and Harry Kane in one of the tougher draws they could have got for the last eight.

For Mikel Arteta, it will matter little. The Spaniard will have his team ready to go and at the end of the day, this is what getting into the top competitions is all about.

Arsenal will be hoping to see off the Germans, of course. And speaking about the Gunners’ hopes before the draw was made today, Cesc Fabregas has given his verdict on his former team.

Cesc Fabregas offers up Arsenal Champions League prediction

Speaking on the Planet Premier League Podcast, Fabregas admitted he feels Arsenal are well placed to go deep in the competition.

“I watched both games and I wouldn’t say they struggled but they found it more difficult than lately to score goals, get into the area and to create chances. Even though against Brentford a bit less. They are still a very young team but you know the experience of playing in the last 16 of the Champions League, a big came coming up 3 days later maybe played on their head but you know, they still managed to nick it. And that’s very important. A sign of a team that wants to be Champions, that they don’t give up. They struggled a bit against Porto but you know it’s a tough team to face, they defended well, they were compact and wanted it. You could feel as well some luck is on their side and from my experience you need that a lot. But definitely, I think they are a team that I see in contention to do very very well in this competition,” Fabregas said.

Arsenal can beat Bayern Munich

It’s a tough draw, this. Bayern are a fine side and in Harry Kane, they have one of the best strikers in the world on their books.

However, Arsenal needn’t be scared. They are a fine team themselves and this is not the Bayern Munich of old either.

The Germans are struggling domestically and Arsenal will hope to tap into that and try and ensure that carries on into European competition.

Arteta will have his team well up for the game and after the good feeling of seeing off Porto on penalties, The Emirates will be rocking once more.
