Cesc Fabregas has shared how Jurgen Klopp reacted when the midfielder went to apologise after being sent off against Liverpool in a pre-season game.

Jurgen Klopp is obviously the talk of the town right now after announcing last week that he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.

Klopp’s departure represents one of the most significant managerial announcements the Premier League has seen. He transformed the Reds, ending their 30-year wait for a league title win. He also won the Champions League, the FA Cup and the League Cup.

So it is a huge moment. And there is no question that the Premier League will be a much worse place without Klopp on the touchline week-in, week-out.

And speaking on Planet Premier League, Cesc Fabregas suggested that he has huge admiration for everything Klopp has done – before sharing one story from when he faced Liverpool in a pre-season game.

“I believe Klopp every time he talks, every time he’s happy and when he’s angry and when he’s sad. Because this is the way he is. He was like that at Dortmund. I remember when I was following them when they had that amazing run into the Champions League final. And it’s been the same playing against him, confronting him,” he said.

“I remember a pre-season game we played against Liverpool. I was sent off in America. It was a pre-season game. I did a tackle. I know I’m not seen as an aggressive player, but I was sometimes. And I went to the dressing room, I just had a talk with him. I said that I’m really sorry, I didn’t mean to be late on the tackle. And he was super nice, super genuine. He shared his thoughts about the action. We started talking a bit of football. And I appreciated that a lot.

“I always felt with him that you could have a nice moment.”

A huge loss to the Premier League

Klopp has not been perfect during his time at Liverpool. Some of his actions have crossed a line, particularly on the touchline.

However, there is not one single football fan who has not made a mistake with how they have reacted at one moment or another. So it is harsh to be too critical of Klopp when he got things wrong.

That passion is one of the reasons Liverpool fans, and many neutrals, adore Klopp. Certainly, whoever succeeds him has got a monumental task on their hands.
