Cesc Fabregas says ‘talented’ Spurs player could’ve done ‘much more’ in his career but for injuries

Tottenham Hotspur ace Gareth Bale could have done “much more” in his career but for recurring injury problems, according to Cesc Fabregas, in conversation with the Daily Mail.

The Welshman rejoined Tottenham in the summer on a loan deal from Real Madrid, seven years after completing a then world record £86million deal to the Spanish club.

During his time at the Bernabeu, Bale made 251 competitive appearances, scoring 105 goals, claiming 68 assists and winning a multitude of trophies.

However, his future at Real had looked in doubt for a while after the player fell out of favour under Zinedine Zidane, making just 20 appearances last season including 12 La Liga starts.

Bale also suffered a succession of injuries throughout his career which saw him miss over 80 games for Los Blancos and over 20 for Tottenham.

Fabregas was discussing Jack Wilshere, describing him as one of the most talented players he’d played alongside, but whose injuries left him unable to properly fulfil his potential.

The Arsenal legend went on to compare his former teammate to Aaron Ramsey, another former Gunner, and Bale.

“Jack was such a good talent, one of the most talented players I’ve ever played with,” Fabregas told the Daily Mail.

“He was just 16 when he first came to train with us and I was like “wow this guy is good, strong, sharp.”

“It’s a big shame what has happened to him, I feel sorry because he could have been a proper English legend of the game.

“We always talk about how British players would adapt to teams in Europe, I always believed that Jack was one of the few Brits who could have made it big time at Real Madrid or Barcelona.

“Same with Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale. These guys are so talented, without injuries they could have done much more.”

TBR View:

While it is a shame that Wilshere, Ramsey and Bale have suffered from a lot of injuries throughout their respective careers, Bale’s CV is incredible as it is, and he did make it big time in Madrid.

Four Champions Leagues, two La Liga titles, four Club World Cups, various other Super Cups with Real, and he even lifted Tottenham’s last major trophy, the 2008 League Cup.

At international level, meanwhile, Bale helped Wales to the Euro 2016 semi-finals and will have another shot next year.

You can’t exactly call Bale’s career unfulfilled, and now he’s back in the Premier League, he’s got the opportunity of adding that title to his CV now too.
