Cesc Fabregas has defended Liverpool on Twitter after the Reds suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Barcelona in the Nou Camp – with Lionel Messi stealing the show once again.
Messi, who turns 32 in June, scored an excellent brace to take his tally of goals for Barcelona to an astonishing 600 – just days after Cristiano Ronaldo had done the same for Juventus.
Barcelona went ahead after Luis Suarez turned home Jordi Alba’s excellent pass, before Messi made it two. He scored his 600th goal with a stunning free-kick from 25 yards out that sent Twitter into a frenzy.
Former Arsenal captain Fabregas, who played alongside Messi for Barcelona, has leapt to the defence of Liverpool who played well. The 3-0 scoreline is harsh on Jurgen Klopp’s men, who should have scored at least twice.
Hats off to Liverpool, what an amazing performance. You can only lose a game like that if against you there is a good team but specially a player that is well above the rest.

Had Liverpool scored that elusive away goal, the tie would still be on. Indeed, Mo Salah inexplicably failed to hit the back of the net from just six yards out – crashing an effort against the post late on.
Gigi Wijnaldum’s dummy was met by James Milner with the score at 1-0, but his effort was straight at Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Either side of the German goalkeeper, and it was a certain goal.
Liverpool have to score three, unanswered goals at Anfield. Keeping a clean sheet against Barca is one thing, scoring three against them is another. The chances are that Liverpool have been knocked out.
