'Certainly’: Romano says Liverpool scouts think Darwin Nunez is so similar to £250k-a-week Man United player
The reports from Liverpool’s scouting department say that their target Darwin Nunez is very similar to countryman Edinson Cavani.
Uruguayan striker Cavani has of course spent the last two seasons with Liverpool’s bitter rivals Manchester United.
After signing a one-year extension worth £250,000-a-week, it did not work out for the hitman at Old Trafford last term.
His campaign was blighted by injury and his nose was put out of joint by Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival.

Liverpool scouts say Nunez is so similar to Cavani
There is no doubt that Nunez would be Liverpool’s main man if he came to Anfield, taking up the central striker spot that Sadio Mane moved into after Luis Diaz’s arrival.
In a column for Caught Offside, Romano said that Nunez is the man Liverpool really want to sign this summer, while United have other priorities first.
That said, it has been reported that United are ahead in the chase, because their need for a striker has been more obvious for longer, while Liverpool are reacting to the Mane situation.
Romano also said that the Liverpool scouting department have seen a forward in the mould of Cavani when they watch him play.
Roberto Firmino has come deep to link Liverpool’s play for years, before Mane did similar.
And there has been a move away from traditional central strikers at the top of football in recent years, with Manchester City winning the Premier League with a false nine for two years running.
But they have signed Erling Haaland and Liverpool want to respond in kind with Nunez, meaning that the game could swing back towards the towering number nine again.
That said, Liverpool have a lot of work to do before Nunez is in the red shirt, although their transfer operation is as good as any around.
