Reported Liverpool target David Alaba has confirmed that he’ll be on the move this summer.

The Austria international is contracted to Bayern Munich until the end of the season and will leave once his deal expires.

“I have made the decision to leave FC Bayern at the end of this season and try something new,” he told the club media team.

“It obviously wasn’t an easy decision – I’ve been here for 13 years and the club means a lot to me.”

Liverpool, who have had their fair share of defensive issues this season, are just one of the clubs who have been linked with Alaba’s services in recent weeks.

Fabrizio Romano claimed in January that the Reds had made a “top bid” for him, but also said Real Madrid were frontrunners.

And earlier this week, Romano provided a new update:

Despite strong speculation linking him to the Bernabeu, Alaba says he’s yet to make a decision on his future.

According to Sky Sports, Bayern had offered Alaba multiple contract extensions, including a £13million-a-year deal which was rejected, but talks ceased in November.

The 28-year-old has also reportedly attracted interest from Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City.

TBR View:

Alaba is a player of the highest calibre who would strengthen any back line in the world and will be available for free this summer.

However, this means there will likely be a huge bidding war amongst the world’s top clubs in terms of contracts and sign-on fees offered.

According to ESPN, Alaba’s representatives have been in talks with Real Madrid and a four-year contract worth almost £400,000-a-week has been mooted.

Other interested clubs have reportedly been told they will need to match that figure to enter the running – will any other club be able (or indeed willing) to afford such a deal at present?
