International friendlies are underway this week, as teams begin preparing for the World Cup in Russia. One team who are trying to get ready for the competition are Iran. In order to do so, they took on Turkey this week. The European side have not qualified for the competition, so it was something of a surprise that they came away with the win. Despite a late penalty from recently released Nottingham Forest midfielder Ashkan Dejagah, Turkey won 2-1. The two goals on the night scored by a man who should interest Everton fans. Cenk Tosun found the net twice to secure the win for his nation.

Once again it was more proof that in Tosun, Everton might just have a special goalscorer. His two goals on international duty took his tally for the season to 24 goals in all competitions for club and country. That is including his excellent form in the Champions League with former club Besiktas.

It was that form that made Everton decide to spend £27 million bringing him to Goodison Park in the winter.

But he had to bide his time for a chance in the first-team on Merseyside. Sam Allardyce wanted to ease him into English football which, despite many protestations, was perhaps one of the better ideas he had as Everton boss.

When Tosun did come into the Everton team he looked worth the money. The Turkish star scored five goals in his last 10 games of the season for the Toffees.

It looks like being a busy week for Everton. Marcel Brands starts work on Friday with new manager Marco Silva also set to be appointed before the weekend.

It will then be a busy summer. Everton are expected to bring in plenty of new faces across the pitch to strengthen their options after a difficult campaign.

One area they will probably look to make changes is up front. But in Tosun, they have a potential star on their hands. His performance this week again showed what he is – a natural born goalscorer.

If he can continue such form into the new season, then Silva and Brands will be happy to have inherited the Turkish striker.
