Celtic are reportedly in the hunt for former AC Milan midfielder Andrea Bertolacci. Reports and rumours have been doing the rounds over the weekend and Celtic fans are right to be excited about any potential deal for the player.
The five-time Italian international joined Milan in 2015 for a fee reported by Football Italia to have been in the region of €20 million (£18 million).
But he has struggled at the San Siro and this summer became a free agent.
However, despite the Daily Record, Football Scotland and TMW all reporting the news, it seems a ropey link. It appears to stem from Calcio Buzz’s report which cites ‘Scottish journalists’.
Calciomercato also reported on the news. They suggested that the Scottish media were reporting the news. Their report detailed interest from Fiorentina and Genoa, his former club, which seem far more realistic destinations.
But the lack of a clear-cut tale behind Celtic’s apparent interest in the player certainly leaves plenty of fans doubting the veracity of such a move.
Bertolacci would be a great recruit for Celtic and could certainly improve the club’s midfield options.
However, until Neil Lennon states that Celtic are looking at Bertolacci this summer, Bhoys fans are best off taking any reported interest with a pinch of salt.
