Celtic would be getting a potential new Virgil van Dijk with Dael Fry signature

The Middlesbrough defender shares many similarities with the former Celtic star.

It appears Celtic are on the lookout for a new central defender and rightly so. With doubts still remaining over Dedryck Boyata’s future at the club, the Bhoys must start preparing for his exit. With Filip Benkovic only on loan from Leicester City, that need is even more justified.

One name that has popped up in recent days is that of Middlesbrough defender Dael Fry.

As reported by TeamTALK, Celtic join several of the Premier League’s top clubs in wanting the Boro star. Fry, who has taken his chance in the first-team at the Riverside this season, would undoubtedly be a good signing for Celtic.

At 6ft 4ins he is an imposing figure for a 21-year-old. Despite his large frame, he is surprisingly athletic. Quick and strong, Fry is also brilliant with the ball at his feet. It is those attributes that have seen him capped by England at every level from under-17 to under-21 level. Considered a future England international in the making, all those attributes sound familiar to a former Celtic star.

Virgil van Dijk is now a £75 million star for Liverpool but he truly cut his teeth at Parkhead. Strong, agile and capable with the ball at his feet, Van Dijk shares attributes with the apparent Celtic target. At 1.93 metres tall, the pair are even the same height.

Celtic would be bringing in a potential future star if they could snap up Fry from Boro. With the likes of Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea also said to be keen, that will be a tough task. But if Celtic can pull it off they might have a superstar new central defender.
