Celtic host German opposition RB Leipzig on Thursday night in the group stages of the Europa League and realistically need a win if they want to qualify for the knockout rounds of this season’s competition.
The Bhoys were beaten 2-0 away to Leipzig when the teams met earlier in the group, but will be hoping home advantage at Parkhead can help them exact revenge.
Brendan Rodgers appears to have settled on Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic as his preferred centre-back pairing right now, with both in line to feature on Thursday.
The defensive duo have been given a psychological boost ahead of the European showdown, as Leipzig will be without their two top scorers this season.
Centre-forward Timo Werner, who has netted eight times in 13 matches, is recovering from a toe injury and won’t be risked against Celtic.
Meanwhile, seven-goal striker Yussuf Poulsen is absent with a back injury and the Bundesliga side will have to manage without him.
Leipzig have flown to Glasgow without either of their star attackers, but do have enough in reserve to pose some questions and that’s something they have already done against the Scottish champions.
It should be some comfort to the Celtic centre-backs that they don’t have to face Leipzig’s best attacking threats and will be looking to benefit from all small margins.
