Celtic should consider targeting Derby County’s David Marshall this summer, according to ex-Bhoys player Mark Wilson.
Marshall, who has 41 international caps for Scotland, currently plays in the English Championship with Derby County.
The 36-year-old previously started his senior career at Parkhead, but has spent the majority of his time playing in the English leagues.
He’s a veteran shot-stopper that has eight clean sheets in 28 league games so far this season at Derby.
Wilson has suggested that Celtic should consider a move this summer for Marshall, who admitted last summer that he would “love” a return to the Scottish giants (Scottish Sun).
It’s worth noting he’s still under contract with Derby until 2022.
“A name that hasn’t went away from the summer that I think Celtic should go for again, just to get in the door as number one and it would sort out their problem – I think they should go for David Marshall,” Wilson told the Celtic Huddle Podcast.
“People will say ‘it’s a step backwards, he’s 35 or 36 years old’. But I look across the city and see Allan McGregor coming to Rangers. Was he 38 when he came? 37? I see pictures of him holding the Player of the Year for Scotland trophy.
“I know he’s still got another year to go, but surely Marsh would be up for coming back to Glasgow.”

TBR’s View:
It’s a great point that Old Firm rivals and new league champions Rangers have found great success with a veteran goalkeeper in net this season.
Aged 39, Allan McGregor has been sensational at Ibrox during the campaign, and has played a big part in their success.
Celtic need to conduct a rebuild of their squad if they want to win back their league, and one of the positions that needs addressing most is in goal.
If you don’t have a consistent number one performing each week, it’s difficult for the defence in front of them.
