Celtic transfer: Hoops reportedly want Aston Villa starlet amid contract uncertainty; but Nagelsmann is also keen
Celtic are monitoring Aston Villa youngster Viljami Sinisalo in the transfer window, but the Sunday People (20/6; page 56) reports that the Hoops may have to see off competition from Bayern Munich for his signature.
Sinisalo is yet to make his first-team debut at Villa Park. However, he did get the chance to impress at senior level last season.
The 19-year-old spent the majority of the campaign on loan at Ayr United, making 29 appearances in all competitions.
He is now approaching a crucial stage in his career with the Villans. According to the Sunday People (20/6; page 56), his contract expires next summer.
Villa are keen to keep him and tie him down to a fresh deal. But an impressive queue of admirers is now forming.
According to the Sunday People, Celtic want the teenager. Meanwhile, Bayern and RB Leipzig also want the Finland under-21 international.
Should he stay at Villa, he is set to be loaned out next year. It is suggested that a move to the Championship or League One would be on the cards.
But of course, should he decide that he does not want to stay, Villa may feel compelled to let him go in this window.
Celtic may fancy their chances of transfer coup if Sinisalo decides he wants to leave Villa
It looks to be an incredibly exciting time to be at Villa Park. So surely Sinisalo will be extremely tempted to stay put and continue his development in the Midlands.
However, if he decides to leave, Celtic must have a decent chance of seeing off competition from Bayern.
Of course, turning down the Bavarian giants or RB Leipzig would not be easy. But Celtic perhaps have the advantage that they can offer the clearest path to the first-team.
Ange Postecoglou arguably does not have a clear number one to put his faith in heading into next season. They have been linked with a move for Mat Ryan.
Obviously, Sinisalo may not be ready to be their first-choice. But it may just be about putting yourself in the right place at the right time.
So perhaps the Bhoys are not the obvious underdogs they initially appear to be.
