Celtic transfer: Hoops reportedly open talks to sign £5m target who idolises Sergio Ramos; club ready to sell
Celtic have received a transfer boost with The Scottish Sun reporting that they have opened talks with another club as the Hoops hope to land the first signing of the Ange Postecoglou era.
Unsurprisingly, the Bhoys appear to be prioritising their centre-back options, and stepping up their interest in Mario Vuskovic.
The Scottish Sun reports that the Hajduk Split starlet was watched by Celtic scouts on several occasion last season.
And it is now being reported that talks have started between the two clubs. The report suggests that Vuskovic will cost around £5 million.
Celtic may not have clear run to Vuskovic transfer
According to The Scottish Sun, Hajduk are ready to sell the 19-year-old this summer. So that should certainly work in Celtic’s favour as they look to get a deal across the line.
However, the Hoops are not Vuskovic’s only admirer.
The Scottish Sun reports that Torino also want the teenager.
Of course, Celtic and Torino have a little history when it comes to centre-backs and transfer windows.
It was the Serie A side who were set to sign Jozo Simunovic in 2016. As reported by the Daily Record, Simunovic flew to Italy to seal a move before a deal broke down over his medical.
Who is Mario Vuskovic?
Five years on from that saga, Celtic are now hoping to sign Simunovic’s countryman.
Vuskovic looks to be an exciting defender. He actually spent much of his youth career playing slightly further forward in midfield.
So it should come as little surprise that the youngster is capable of making a contribution in the final third.
He scored twice and provided two assists in the top flight last year. He also looks to need very little encouragement to take a shot from distance.
Vuskovic once told Dalmatinski that his idol is Sergio Ramos. Like Ramos in fact, Vuskovic has also been deployed at right-back.
So there are signs that suggest that Celtic could be about to produce a real coup if they land the youngster.
