Celtic are edging closer to another Scottish Premiership title and currently sit eight points clear of fierce rivals Rangers.
Neil Lennon has picked up the pieces following the departure of Brendan Rodgers who left to join Leicester City.
It remains to be seen whether Lennon will continue in the role beyond the end of this season, but already players are being linked with the Hoops.
According to the Scottish Sun, Celtic are keen to land Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas.
The Czech Republic international is currently on loan with Bristol City and will be a wanted man in the summer.
As per the article, Kalas is on the shortlist of targets drawn up by interim boss Lennon, although Rangers are also said to be interested.
Quite simply, Celtic must land the 25-year-old.
Given that his prospects at Chelsea look bleak the chances of Celtic landing the defender look high.
The Scottish Sun claims that Kalas could cost £5 million, which in today’s market represents a steal.
Spotrac claims that Kalas earns £23k-a-week which doesn’t sound out of Celtic’s budget.
Kalas’ style of defending is not too dissimilar to former Celtic man Virgil van Dijk.
When the Dutchman arrived from Groningen he was an unknown quantity.
Two league titles and a Scottish Cup later and his quality was there for all to see.
Having used Celtic as a stepping stone he has shone at Southampton before becoming arguably the best defender in the world at Liverpool.
Of course, there is no saying that Kalas will ever be as good as Van Dijk. Given that he is already 25, the chances of him replicating the Liverpool performer look slim.
He could have a similar impact in Scotland to that of the ex-Celtic man though and that makes him a must for the summer.
The Hoops are craving a no-nonsense central defender. Given his quality, he would be head and shoulders over anything currently playing in the Scottish Premiership.
Celtic need players who can push them on in Europe and Kalas can be that player.
