Celtic target Timothy Castagne ticks a lot of boxes

Celtic have reportedly launched a £6million move to sign defender Timothy Castagne from Serie A club Atalanta.

According to the Daily Mail, the Bhoys are hopeful of landing the defensive target in the January transfer window and believe he could replace Mikael Lustig.

The report details that the 23-year-old is still under contract with Italian club Atalanta until 2020 and they are reluctant to offload him.

Celtic need to find a suitable replacement at right-back for inconsistent full-back Lustig and their new target ticks a lot of boxes for them.

Castagne is a three-time Belgium international with a lot of potential and could be a great fit at Parkhead, while also being a significant upgrade on Lustig.

The young ace is a versatile player that can play at right-back or on the wing, with his attacking instincts a large part of his game.

He has enjoyed a lot of first-team football earlier in his career with Belgian side Genk, but not been an ever-present for Atalanta this season and made just 13 appearances across all competitions.

Celtic would be pulling off a great swoop if they can tempt him to Scotland with more regular action and it would set up a formidable defence.

The Bhoys would look a real force if they had attack-minded full-backs Castagne and Kieran Tierney, with centre-backs Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic in the middle.
