Sky Sports has suggested that any links to a potential Celtic deal for Vincent Janssen are ‘nonsense’ suggesting that the Bhoys have zero interest in signing the Dutchman, either permanently or on loan.
Tottenham Hotspur have completely frozen the player out of proceedings at the club after he struggled at the club following a big move from AZ Alkmaar in 2016.
But should Celtic have been keen?
Janssen has had had a torrid couple of years, a foot injury reduced him to just 21 appearances last term and only four goals. His one full season for Spurs was also unproductive. He managed just six goals for the club, only one of which came from open play.
Looking at that, it is fair to say Celtic are right to avoid Janssen.
But it cannot be forgotten why Tottenham decided to sign him in the first place. In the 2015-16 season, he scored an incredible 31 goals in 44 appearances for club and country. That led to Tottenham splashing out a reported £18.6 million to sign the player from AZ Alkmaar.
If he was to recreate that level of goalscoring ability in Scotland, then Celtic would be getting a gem.
Maybe they should be keen.
