Celtic supporters react as Si Ferry urges club to consider Paolo Di Canio

The pressure is mounting on Celtic manager Neil Lennon and pundits are already beginning to start suggesting potential replacements for the Hoops legend – and Celtic fans have reacted to Si Ferry’s suggestion.

Two wins in their last 10, Europa League and Betfred Cup exits, 11 points behind Rangers and four straight home defeats has left Lennon in a position which many believe is impossible to recover from.

Peter Lawwell has reportedly decided to keep Lennon in charge for Thursday’s Europa League clash against AC Milan but it remains to be seen whether the result of that dead-rubber will contribute to whether he keeps the job.

Si Ferry – who came through the ranks at Celtic – has gained traction with his online podcast Open Goal, and has urged the Scottish champions to consider a move to lure ex-Hoops attacker Paolo Di Canio to Parkhead.

“One guy who I know would be a good short term fix would be Di Canio,” Ferry said. “Not long term, but a short term fix. He would love it. See all the pressure it would not bother him. I think that is what this team need.

“See the mistakes, he would have you on the training ground for five hours until it was better. He would not leave Lennoxtown until it was how he wanted it. Ntcham jogging back for the goal – he would be pinned up against a wall.”

Di Canio, 52, was Swindon Town manager during Ferry’s spell at the County Ground, and played for Celtic 37 times during the 1996-97 season – in which he scored 15 goals. Di Canio has also managed Sunderland.

Celtic supporters have reacted on Twitter to Ferry’s suggestion and while many are against the idea of a short-term spell under Di Canio – many were open to a potential pursuit of 10 in a row under the Italian.
