Celtic supporters react as club reportedly planning new deal for breakthrough star
Conor Hazard has broken into the Celtic first team and remains in line to start Sunday’s Scottish Cup final against Hearts and is reportedly in line to win a deal under Neil Lennon – prompting reaction Celtic supporters.
Hazard, 22, has profited from Celtic’s poor form of late – being given a chance between the sticks following Vasilis Barkas’ poor start to life in Glasgow, and Scott Bain’s inconsistent form, including two mistakes in the latest 4-1 defeat to Sparta Prague.
He has taken his chance with aplomb. The one-time Northern Ireland international made a number of saves in the 3-2 win over Lille before helping his side keep a well-earned clean sheet over Alex Dyer’s Kilmarnock on Sunday afternoon.
Now, Hazard is set to be rewarded. The goalkeeper is in the final year of his contract at Parkhead but that could be about to change – with Lennon set to offer Hazard reward for his breakthrough in the form of a new deal, as per The Sun.
It could have been very different for Hazard. Indeed, the goalkeeper was the subject of a season-long loan offer from Dundee – but the move was rejected by Celtic and Lennon in order to keep Hazard as third-choice goalkeeper.
Now, Celtic supporters have reacted on Twitter to the reported news that Hazard is due a new contract – and many have reacted by backing the decision. One fan even Tweeted that Hazard is better than £4.5million addition Barkas.
This is a good move for Celtic time to trust our whole squad
