Celtic supporters react as club reportedly eye bargain left-footer

Celtic are reportedly interested in signing Philadelphia Union defender Mark McKenzie as he continues to shine in the MLS, and Hoops supporters have reacted on Twitter to the news that they could sign the United States international.

McKenzie, 21, has clocked up 36 senior appearances in all competitions for The Union after making his debut as a teenager in 2018. In that time, the left-footed centre-back has already earned a cap in the United States national team.

Celtic are reportedly after a replacement for Jozo Simunovic who was released by the Hoops earlier this summer. It is believed McKenzie fits the bill despite his lack of senior outings and experience.

The Daily Record state that Celtic are interested, and that the left-footer – who can also play as a left-back – can be signed for a bargain of less than £1million. McKenzie has a contract until 2022, with the option of another two years.

The Hoops need centre-back cover with Christopher Jullien and Kris Ajer the only options at the heart of Neil Lennon’s defence. Hatem Abd Elhamed is preferred at right-back, while Jack Hendry is expected to leave the club this summer.

Celtic supporters have reacted on Twitter to the reported news that their club are interested in signing McKenzie for a bargain six-figure fee – and many think he could be a good signing for the Scottish champions.
