Celtic’s 2-0 first leg defeat against Valencia meant that progression from their Europa League last 32 tie looked a tough ask when they travelled to the Mestalla Stadium for the return last night.

The Bhoys have a notoriously poor record away from home in European competition and the La Liga side knew that scoring once on their own patch would effectively kill the tie.
