Celtic manager, Neil Lennon, could be preparing to let Leigh Griffiths leave the club after the striker returned from lockdown in apparent poor physical condition.
The striker, who has been outshone this season by Odsonne Edouard in the Celtic attack, has reportedly come back in with poor fitness levels, according to The Scotsman.
Griffiths has still managed 11 goals across all competitions this season. However, he’s struggled with some off-field issues as well as a hamstring injury which saw him miss the first few months of the campaign.
Neil Lennon has previously backed his man to the hilt. But it is believed the Celtic manager is unhappy with Griffiths’ latest stunt.
It means, then, that the former Wolves man will miss the Bhoys’ trip to France and will reportedly be re-assessed by those at the club upon the squad’s return to Scotland.
Depending on that assessment, Lennon could well seek to offload the striker if he feels his time with the club has come to an end.
Celtic need Griffiths firing, especially if Eduoard does go – TBR View
This would be a massive shame for Celtic and Griffiths. Nobody likes to see things come to an end in a sour way and it’s certainly not how the club of the player himself will want to leave things.
But the manager has a club and squad to manage and has to do what’s right. If he feels it is unprofessional and a step too far, Griffiths could well be out the door.
However, with Odsonne Edouard looking likely to leave, Celtic could do with Griffiths at his best. Lennon, fans, and officials at Celtic Park, then, will be hoping the 29-year-old has sorted himself out.
