Celtic star gets praise from £20m striker, Mo Elyounoussi and Eros Grezda
Albian Ajeti lead out a Celtic side that earned a 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday in Ange Postecoglou’s first game in charge. Despite going behind, the Hoops secured a comfortable win. Ajeti posted on Instagram, and was applauded by many – as he wore the captain’s armband.
Ajeti, 24, has been a source of criticism for Celtic fans. With the transfer strategy clearly failing last season, Ajeti is one of the main culprits. But the Swiss striker looked hungry as Postecoglou gives his Celtic stars a clean slate – and he scored. Ex-Rangers man Josh Windass had scored first.
But ex-West Ham and Basel man got one back. He only netted six goals in 31 games last season but he has made a solid to this pre-season. Cutting inside from the left, he fired a low shot past the Wednesday goalkeeper to restore parity. Celtic went on to win 3-1, and Ajeti posted on Instagram.
What praise has Ajeti got on Instagram after Celtic run out?
Postecoglou handed his starting players an hour of football before making 10 changes. The substitutions came after Owen Moffat put Celtic in front, and then one of those subs – in Odsonne Edouard – scored with moments left in the match. A good run out for his players, but Ajeti caught the headlines.
Not least because of his goal or wearing the captain’s armband – but because fans also reckon he has slimmed down. Plenty responded to his Instagram post, alluding to him being named captain. Mo Elyounoussi and £20million (Guardian) striker Breel Embolo applauded Ajeti.
As did Eros Grezda, the man who played 17 times for Rangers in two seasons before being offloaded.
