Celtic star does little to dispel links to interested French club

Celtic ace Olivier Ntcham has risked the wrath of the Parkhead faithful after failing to quash speculation about a move to Marseille.

The French midfielder has been the subject of intrigue from other teams for weeks, with FC Porto and Lyon having also been credited with an interest.

Ntcham, signed in 2017 from Manchester City for around £5 million, only signed a new four-year deal with the Hoops last November, but talk has been rife about his future.

The player has now ominously addressed the latest speculation. He said, as quoted by The Daily Record: “Yes, it’s very interesting. Marseille are a big club. A departure from Celtic is possible.”

A swoop from Marseille this summer may well hinge on them selling Morgan Sanson, who had been linked to West Ham United. Manuel Pellegrini’s side have now signed Pablo Fornals though.

TBR’s view

Fans appear to be very split about the 23-year-old and what course of action the club should take.

Ntcham was superb in his first season at Parkhead but some feel he has failed to kick on.

Last term he struggled a bit with injury, but he is undoubtedly a classy player on his day.

Neil Lennon would surely like to work with Ntcham, but the player’s take on Marseille’s apparent interest does not bode particularly well for the Northern Irishman.
