Kieran Tierney impressed on his Arsenal debut on Tuesday night as the Gunners cruised into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup at The Emirates with a 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest – prompting reaction from some of his former Celtic teammates.
Tierney, 22, has been unable to make his debut for the north Londoners since completing a £25million move to Arsenal towards the end of the summer window. A hip injury has kept him sidelined until now.
However, he started on the left side of defence for Arsenal on Tuesday night as goals from Joe Willock, Reiss Nelson, Rob Holding and a Gabriel Martinelli brace saw the Gunners ease into the next round.
Tierney lasted 77 minutes before being replaced by another long-term absentee, in the form of Hector Bellerin. Both players earned a standing applause for their efforts throughout the match, and Tierney posted on Instagram after the match.
Tierney is obviously held in high regard at Celtic after coming through the academy at Lennoxtown, as a supporter of the club. He managed 170 appearances in all competitions for the Hoops despite his tender age, winning five league titles.
It was no surprise to see, then, that his former Celtic teammates congratulated him on Instagram by replying to Tierney in the comments. Jonny Hayes described Tierney in the third picture as “blue steel”, while Patrick Roberts also commented.
