Celtic should target defender Mike van der Hoorn in summer

Celtic’s immediate focus will be on winning even more trophies during the Brendan Rodgers era, but the competition appears to be stiffer this season and the club need to continue strengthening.

The Bhoys are perhaps short of several quality options at centre-back and it’s an area that they need to consider improving next summer.

They will lose Filip Benkovic when he returns to Leicester City from his loan and the heart of the defence will need bolstering.

Rodgers should turn his attention to one of his former clubs Swansea City, where he may find the perfect answer.

Mike van der Hoorn is a no-nonsense defender that would be ideal for Celtic and should be tracked by the Scottish giants.

The 26-year-old enforcer is out of contract at the Liberty Stadium at the end of the season and the Bhoys should move to snap him up on a free transfer.

According to the Sun, Aston Villa want to sign van der Hoorn ahead of next season when he becomes available on a free and were quoted £10million for him in January.

Celtic should be all over a swoop for the Dutchman, who could make a huge impression at Parkhead if given the chance.

Van der Hoorn is a ball-playing centre-back that would fit the mould perfectly under Rodgers and is a physical presence too with experience at Swansea and Ajax.
