The Scottish Sun is reporting that both Leicester City and West Ham United are keen on signing the Motherwell talent Reece McAlear this summer.
The report suggests that Leicester boss Rodgers has been a fan since his time at Celtic and now wants the 17-year-old at the King Power Stadium.
So should Celtic continue Rodgers’ interest in his absence, and battle their former boss for the teenager?
McAlear is clearly a top talent and a player Motherwell will not want to let go. But Celtic could certainly provide sufficient financial compensation to bring the player to Parkhead. McAlear is out of contract next summer and Motherwell will not want to risk losing him for nothing in 12 months time.
Celtic could also be seen as a better option for the player, as he could remain in his native Scotland and thrive at a huge club. The Bhoys could even loan McAlear back to Fir Park until the end of the season as part of any deal.
This week saw Celtic agree a fee with Motherwell for David Turnbull, reported by the Scottish Sun to be in the region of £3 million.
No doubt The Steelmen will not want to lose another key player to Celtic but the Glasgow club would be smart to follow up their Turnbull switch with a move for this Rodgers favourite.
