Celtic should request player-plus-cash deal if Edouard moves to London side – TBR View

Crystal Palace are reportedly interested in luring Odsonne Edouard to Selhurst Park this summer as the Celtic striker continues to shine north of the border – but the Hoops should consider a player-plus-cash deal to instantly replace the Frenchman.

Edouard, 22, has been in stunning form for Celtic this season, as the Hoops close in on a fourth consecutive treble. His 27 goals in 46 games is impressive, but perhaps even more so are his 19 assists in that time.

Such form has seen Premier League clubs become interested. The latest to be linked with a move for the ex-Paris Saint-Germain ace is Crystal Palace, with Edouard’s price tag claimed to be £26million as per a report from France Football.

Palace face plenty of competition for Edouard in the likes of Arsenal, Monaco and Lyon as per the report – but if the Eagles are keen to sign Edouard, then perhaps a player-plus-cash deal should be orchestrated in order to secure a move suiting all parties.

Back in 2019, Charlie Nicholas told the Star that Celtic should consider a move for Palace striker Christian Benteke: “Brendan could try to get Christian Benteke from Crystal Palace. He has been poor at Palace but he would score goals for fun up here.”

Benteke, 29, has scored just 22 goals for Palace since joining the club in 2016. A £27million (BBC) signing from Liverpool, the Belgium international has fallen victim to a style of football at Palace that simply does not suit the strikers.

The chances are that Edouard could leave this summer even though Neil Lennon has made no secret that the Hoops want to keep the Frenchman. So, if Celtic are to sell Edouard, they should look for an instant replacement.

A player-plus-cash deal that would see Benteke move north of the border and Edouard to London would be a move that suits all parties and given that Nicholas thinks he would score “for fun” in Scotland, surely it is a move that makes sense.
