Liverpool are reportedly interested in Celtic winger James Forrest. The Scottish Sun reports that Jurgen Klopp is keen on the Scotland winger, who has been in fine form this season.
The 27-year-old has scored 11 goals and provided 17 assists for Celtic this season and Liverpool are undoubtedly right to keep tabs on him.
However, the fee involved should have Celtic laughing. The report suggests Liverpool want to sign him for just £8 million.
That fee should be immediately dismissed. In fact, if such an offer arrived, Celtic should be offended.
Forrest’s form this season undoubtedly warrants a far higher price-tag on his head.
For example, Celtic have just signed Oliver Burke on loan from West Brom. He joined RB Leipzig in 2016 for £13 million and West Brom in 2017 for £15 million. That’s a combined transfer total of £28 million for the former Nottingham Forest talent. Considering he has not achieved anything near as much as Forrest suggests the Celtic star should be priced far higher if Liverpool come calling, regardless of Burke’s younger years.
Celtic fans will undoubtedly hope that the Bhoys keep hold of their star winger. However, if he is sold, it should be for at least double the £8 million mentioned.
