Celtic should consider making a move for Rennes attacker Hatem Ben Arfa.

The Frenchman looks likely to leave the club with his contract set to expire this summer.

Things appear to have taken a sour turn for the player, who is seemingly unhappy with the current state of affairs at the club.

Despite a recent triumph over Paris Saint-Germain in the Coupe de France, the former Newcastle United ace said after the 1-1 draw with EA Guingamp (as reported by RMC Sport): “We are not ambitious enough, too timid… there is a reason why we are 13th in the table.”

And GFFN quote him as saying: “When your own fans (at Rennes) are booing you, that can have an impact on your decision-making.”

Ben Arfa has had a great season for the French outfit, scoring nine goals and making three assists.

WhoScored have awarded him five man-of-the-match awards so far and an average rating of 7.35, and there appears to be no question marks over his ability.

With his future clearly up in the air, Celtic should think about bringing the mercurial ace to Parkhead this summer.

TBR’s view

Celtic could be a brilliant fit for Ben Arfa, who evidently values ambition.

The Bhoys, of course, have just sealed their eighth straight league title and are gunning for the Treble Treble.

With Timo Weah and Oliver Burke unlikely to return to the club permanently, Ben Arfa – who received a Ligue 1 Player of the Year nomination alongside the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar – could be an ideal signing who could put Celtic streets ahead of rivals Rangers.

The dazzling dribbler would come at no cost and he would likely assume the ‘star man’ role for the Bhoys, something that could see him flourish.
